Record Store Day postponed. How to support

To mark the original date for Record Store Day [tomorrow, Saturday 18th April] Record Store Day UK are encouraging music lovers all over the country to show their support to their local record store by pledging to buy the one record that is truly missing from their collection and ‘filling the gap. On the day, fans are encouraged to use the hashtag #RSDFillTheGap and tagging their local stores. You can use their online store locator here to find your local record stores!’

We absolutely love Record Store Day. The annual event was due to take place tomorrow and was set to see exclusive releases sold through independent record shops. And so, as you can imagine, the record stores have taken a massive hit.

With Record Store Day due to take place tomorrow. We thought we’d write a little piece on how you can show your support to your local record shop.

Order Online: Almost all record stores are operating online or have Discogs/ Amazon or eBay platforms.

Buy Gift Vouchers: If you’re unable to spend money right now, enquire with your local record store and see if you can buy a gift voucher, or get a Record Token that you can use at a later date. Cash in the till right now would make a big difference to keep things ticking along right now.

Gifting
: if you have family or friends who could do with a little pick-me-up, you could gift a record.

Use social media: not everyone is in a position to get vinyl at the moment, but you can support your local record shop by ‘liking’ them on Facebook, retweeting them on Twitter or just simply by dropping them a quick hello!

We’ll be using this weekend by remembering our local record store, listening to our favourite vinyl from our favourite composer such as Olafur Arnalds ‘Broadchurch soundtrack’, Jóhann Jóhannsson ‘IBM 1401, A User's Manual’ and Charles Mingus ‘Black Saint and Sinner Lady’ and looking forward to the new, postponed day.
